Hi!
I’m Melanie, a New York-based photographer who specializes in both digital and film photography. I daylight as a PR professional, but I keep this side gig going because I love capturing life’s special moments.
I’ve long been behind the lens, stemming from the moment I picked up my sister’s point-and-shoot Canon in 8th grade. I could’ve never imagined that fiddling around with apertures and shutter speeds would one day lead me to this calling. I spent most of high school in the dark room, developing many rolls of film under the red lights and surrounded by the smells of chemicals—a true haven. I continued to pursue this passion in college, when I majored in Art at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Not only did I refine my film photography techniques, but I also honed my craft for photographing and editing digital.
Photography started becoming a business in addition to a hobby during that time, as dance clubs at my college began seeking me out for promotional photoshoots ahead of their recitals. From word-of-mouth, I then also started taking on clients for headshots and graduations. I ventured into wedding photography when, by my sister’s request, I captured the getting ready phase of her wedding day—makeup and hair, dancing to pop hits, steaming the bridesmaid dresses, and her emotional first look in the mirror. Shortly thereafter, I did the same for a close friend as a wedding gift. Without even intending to, I made a reputation for myself as a photographer in the wedding and event space, and I knew it was time to start getting more organized as a freelancer.
Now, with a full rebrand, upgraded gear, a regular cadence of clients, and more cameras than I can count on one hand, I’m right where I want to be.
